Obama’s decision to re-review the Keystone XL pipeline is a major coup for the world. A number of environmentalists have claimed that if this pipeline goes ahead it’s game over. While climate change was cited as one of the reasons for his change of heart, the proposed route through Nebraska’s Ogallala aquifer may have been more significant. How fortunate is it that the US is heading into an election year?
Let’s not forget after the election in 2013 the re-review may be un-re-reviewed. Pundits are saying this will be unlikely. Powerful oil companies are not going to lay low, so we can expect them to be fiercely lobbying for a more $ympathetic President. Of course, we owe a big thanks to Bill McKibben and the US citizens who marched.
In any history book this is a great victory for humanity, and a big win for people!
