Coal Seam Gas mining or CGSM is a worry to many Australians, particularly farmers who stand to lose their livelihoods if the drilling goes ahead. Of concern is what to do with the highly saline, potentially toxic and radioactive compounds and endocrine disrupters and heavy metals that get flushed out.
Fracking uses a great amount of fresh water and contaminates large quantities of potable water with sand and chemicals. Water tables have been known to drop significantly due to fracking. There are more issues which pose great risks to the communities. So many questions. We need a moratorium!
